Our Landscape Design Process - San Diego, CA
Creating a successful landscape starts with a clear process. Whether you are refreshing a small yard or planning a complete outdoor space, Timberwood helps homeowners throughout the San Diego area move from early ideas to a practical, buildable landscape plan.
As a licensed California landscape contractor, we bring design experience, construction knowledge, and a detailed understanding of how outdoor spaces function in Southern California homes.
STEP 1
Initial Consultation
Make an appointment and let’s meet!
At that meeting, we will gather insights, discuss strategies for sustainability, and endeavor to arrive at a basic concept for your landscape. This is where we learn how you want to use your outdoor space, what features matter most, and whether your project may include elements such as patios, planting areas, irrigation, shade structures, or landscape lighting.
STEP 2
Preliminary Cost Estimate
Based on the initial concept we typically start by preparing a free analysis of the cost range for constructing the landscape and provide that to you for discussion and endeavor to arrive at an agreed design budget that will govern the next phase.
This step helps create realistic expectations before detailed design work begins, especially for projects that involve multiple trades, specialty features, or coordination with other professionals such as landscape architects.
STEP 3
Design Phase
In this phase, we will return to your site and gather the information needed to prepare a site plan. These are very detailed sets of measurements that involve laying out your plot and property lines, house footprint, and so forth.
Timberwood charges a reasonable fee to provide design documents (plans) in this phase. The cost of this phase is determined by the size and scope, but will be determined in the preliminary estimate. Once the design is completed, it will be submitted to you for review, discussion, and approval.
Our design approach considers the practical realities of California landscape construction, including drainage, plant selection, hardscape layout, irrigation needs, outdoor living areas, and long-term maintenance.
STEP 4
Contract & Project Initiation
Once the plan is complete then we provide a final Scope of Work document and Proposal to construct and install the landscape plan. We schedule with you an approximate start and completion date and outline a progressive payment schedule.
We take pride in approaching each project with professionalism, clear communication, and careful planning from concept through completion.
